Biography:
Aytunç Akad was born in 1976 in Istanbul. He became interested in documentaries concerning social issues while taking photography classes between 1994-1998 at the Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University. He has produced documentary photo series from around the world for national and international media including Newsweek, Geo Atlantic, Le Monde, Der Spiegel, The Observer, The Guardian, The Times etc. He is represented by the International photo agency Panos Pictures based in London.
Aytunç Akad has also worked with the international organizations such as the United Nations, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, the European Parliament and Greenpeace. Akad prepared a photography project called ‘’Witness Sea’’ and a documentary project called “Coal Burn” for Greenpeace.
Akad has been working for more than 20 years in the advertising and cinema industries which he entered as a camera assistant. He works as a director and cinematographer. He is currently working on a feature length documentary film project entitled “I’m not an Apache”.

Where the wall that Israel has built between itself and Palestine checkpoints have been put up in order to control the crossings. But every crossing from these checkpoints reminds the Palestinians of their isolation. The long waitings at the checkpoints, caused by the Israeli soldiers and illegal crossings have become a daily life event. This wall that divides the towns, streets, neighbours, families has become a significant in everyday life. And has even began to be “accepted”.
