Biography:
Hakan Simsek was born in Brussels in 1978. He completed a Masters degree from the Computer Sciences department of University of Brussels. From kindergarten to the end of his high school years he was interested in painting. In 2010 he became involved with photography and hasn’t put down his camera since. After winning prizes at competitions, with the confidence he gained, Simsek started working as a freelance photographer on long-term projects.
Exhibition: Immigrants in Belgium
Within the context of the Mémoires Collectives’ project, he visited the houses of the first generation Turkish immigrants to Belgium with the aim of commemoration of the fiftieth anniversary (1964-2014) of the first workforce immigration. He listened to their stories and photographed them.
