Exhibition: Kreuzberg
It is an area in Germany’s capital Berlin, called “Klein Istanbul”, also known as “Little Istanbul”. It is home to the first Turkish workers, who immigrated to Germany as part of the labor agreement between Germany and Turkey; an area where the population consists mostly of migrants from Turkey and Africa and which now is within the center of Berlin because of the expansion of the city over the years. With its multicultural and historical fabric, it is one of the most popular areas of Berlin. It has a population of 148,000 of which 60% are people coming from Turkey.
The project offers glimpses of everyday life of the Turkish people who have come to live in Kreuzberg. It is highly revealing about the situation of the first settlers as well as the new generation who has been integrated into German society. This geography also offers small glimpses and tastes from Turkey and of everyday life.
