Biography:
Mert Cagil Turkay was born in 1987 in Istanbul. He completed his Master’s at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University Photography Department in 2010. In 2012 he was an exchange student at Universität für angewandte Kunst/University of Applied Arts Vienna. He currently continues his graduate studies at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University Photography Department. Cagil continues to work as a research assistant at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University Photography Department.

‘Perihan’ is the story of a kitch lady who emigrated to Vienna forthy five years ago as a result of various reasons.
Images of the negative and positive effects of one who embraces a new identity as a result of being ripped apart from a place she once belonged thefore being detached from herself and as a result of the shock caused by getting far away and distant from her roots and culture….
With her intriguing memories and her different image; in her own words “it’s the story of a woman living in the heart of Europe,” sometimes with fear and sometimes as if she already belongs to the place she emigrated to.
