Biography:
She was born in 1985 in Muş and emigrated to Bursa due to socio-economic reasons in 1990. She studied graphic design in high school which is where she met with the photo printing in the dark room. As such, she took a deep interest in photography. She continued her studies in graphic design at Uludag University Vocational School and worked as a graphic designer in several private companies.
She has received various trainings at Bursa Photographic Arts Association since 2010, and participated in Hans and Bazaars Project in 2011 with the aim of self-development. Also, she participated in many group exhibitions organized by the same institution.
Exhibition: Daye (Mother)
She always aimed the personal photo exhibition of her grandmother (Daye). In 2015, she decided to participate in the BursaFotoFest themed “migration”. She tried to tell about her grandmother’s culture in this city they migrated to, her way of living, loneliness, her not belonging to Bursa, homesickness, all the pain she had to go through (getting married when she was still a child, the death of her first child, losing her child of 14 years old at the Varto earthquake, losing her partner and her son in the river of Murat, Muş at a young age), and a life filled with losses.
Why the project is called “DAYE”…
It means “mother” in Kurdish. It is Persian for babysitter, wet nurse, nanny. Everybody in the village, all the relatives, neighbors and friends called her grandmother “Daye”. When she migrated to Bursa, neighbors started calling her “Daye” as well.
Daye: the midwife, the head chef at the weddings, bathed the dead when needed, loved her grandchildren very much, with a heart full of love despite all the pain she had to endure…
Daye is the mother of all.
